Professor Derek Walker held the Chair of Architecture and Design at the Royal College of Art, London, and has been visiting Professor of Architecture and Planning at USC and UCLA in California and the University of Pennsylvania. He was Chief Architect and Planner at Milton Keynes Development Corporation between 1969 and 1976 and has been in practice since that date in London, Milton Keynes, and Los Angeles, with site offices in Marion Jacksonville, Hong Kong and Tokyo. He has lectured extensively at home and abroad in over one hundred universities and institutions and has received over thirty National and International Architectural Awards in numerous building categories.



He has acted as consultant for many years for Academy Editions London and St Martin’s Press New York and has guest edited a number of major publications, including Los Angeles 1 & 2, British Architecture 1 & 2, New Towns, Animated Architecture (incorporating a critical appraisal of the Disney Parks, His books include the Great Engineers, The Architecture and Planning of Milton Keynes. Recent work since completing the Royal Armouries Museum has included two major Leisure projects in Blackpool & Southport, Leigh Sports Village on an 80 acre site in Lancashire. The Museum of British History for a London Site based on 5 themes – British Culture in the widest sense, coupled with the English Language, British Invention, British Landscape, Politics and the Monarchy and the British People. He also produced the Vision and Masterplan for the National Museum for the United States Army on an 80 acre site in Washington DC with David Reddick and Guy Wilson. Projects in the office at present are A Super Racecourses for the Calder Valley and Redcar – Resorts in Sri Lanka and Malaysia and implementation of the ‘Earth Angel’ brand.



He has also been regularly involved with the preparation of programmes for radio and films for television on a variety if cultural and environmental topics.
