Richard Williams
Richard Williams - Dean of Postgraduate Studies, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Edinburgh.

Richard is a Senior Lecturer in History of Art. He has taught at Edinburgh since 2000 and is currently director of the MSc in the City programme which combines architecture, history of art, cultural studies and geography, and incorporates the interdisciplinary design project, the Urban Studio.
His research concerns the theory and visual representation of the city in western culture, with particular interests in professional architectural discourse, and film. His most recent work has focused on architecture and urbanism in Brazil in the 20th century published in Brazil: Modern Architectures in History (Reaktion Books, 2009). Major previous projects have included a study of the New York art scene at the end of the 1960s (After Modern Sculpture, MUP 2000) and a study of the theory and practice of urbanism in contemporary England (The Anxious City, Routledge 2004). His current research concerns the representation of sexuality in urban design, which will be published in a new book for Reaktion in 2011. Richard is published regularly design journals such as Blueprint, as and in newspapers such as the Scotsman. He is an ex trustee of the Art Historians' Association.
