Jon Coaffee

 

Professor Jon Coaffee, Chair in Spatial Planning, Centre for Urban and Regional Studies





Professor Coaffee specialises in spatial planning, planning for risk and resilience, and national security and counter-terrorism. His current and recent research includes Sustaining and Securing the Olympic Neighbourhood – the impact of the 2012 Games; Resilient Design (RE-DESIGN) for counter-terrorism; and the ESRC New Security Challenges programme - The Urban environment: Mirror and mediator of radicalisation.



Prior to joining CURS in July 2009 Jon Coaffee was a Senior Lecturer  in Spatial Planning (Urban Regeneration) in the Centre for Urban Policy Studies at the University of Manchester (2005-2009). He is a fully qualified higher and further education teacher and specialises in teaching urban regeneration, practical planning projects, planning history and urban theory and politics. Jon holds a PhD from Oxford Brookes University which looked at risk, insurance and planning.
