Daniel Durrant

Daniel Durrant - Project Coordinator, Regional Cities East

Dan Durrant grew up in South Cambridgeshire when Cambourne was little more than a twinkle in Terry Farrell's eye. He was involved in working with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) to move people who had been living in Cambridge's long-stay institution The Ida Darwin hospital into housing in the community as part of the governments Care in the Community programme. This gave an insight into conceptions of community, what it is and what it isn't. This was refined through a degree Social Anthropology at Swansea University. Dan went on to work for the Health Service running EU funded projects to provide work opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

After a short period working for a RSL in Christchurch New Zealand he returned to the UK and undertook Masters research using ethnography to understand performance measurements in not-for-profit organisations. For the last three and a half years Dan has worked for Inspire East the Regional Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Communities. This has involved working with the public, private and voluntary sectors to raise the capacity to deliver the growth projected for the East of England. Dan is now seconded to Regional Cities East (RCE), a collaboration of six cities in the East of England who work together to deliver better growth in jobs and housing. Dan runs the Capacity for Urban Renaissance in the East (CURE) programme aimed at building the necessary skills, capacity and behavior among the six RCE cities to focus on places and achieve better outcomes.
